Q&A with Vanessa
What traits are most important in an event producer?
Trust is a big one. I need to trust in myself and my team that we have done our best work every time and have given our vendors the information and tools they need to do their jobs. Then, I need to trust my vendors’ ability to be on point with whatever it is they do best.
Being empathetic is another. I like to try to put myself in the shoes of a guest at my events. See what they see. Try to understand what they might feel and need at any one point, and then let that guide my planning.
There are so many important ones. Attention to detail, enthusiasm, stamina, knowing when to lead and when to listen, being open to new creative ideas and also being pragmatic about what will work. Above all, being humble and having a consistent desire to keep learning about everything.
What’s your idea of perfect happiness?
The life I’m living is pretty much it. Maybe some extra time to travel and see all the people I love the most would be welcome every once in a while.
Where do you find inspiration?
EVERYWHERE! Nature is a big one, but also street art, social media, museums, books and magazines, airports, malls, my kids and places, people and objects in my day-to-day.
